Safe Routes Athens: Schools

Barrow Elementary

FEBRUARY to MAY 2006
Barrow Elementary is picking up this year where it left off with last fall's International Bike and Walk to School Day. Starting in February and continuing though the end of the school year, Barrow Elementary is designating the second Friday of each month as "Walk, Bike, and Take the Bus to School Day." St. James United Methodist Church at the intersection of Lumpkin and West Lake is lending its parking lot to those who live too far away but still want to join in the walking and biking fun.

OCTOBER 2005
The Barrow Elementary School community is getting excited about October 5, International Bike and Walk to School Day. We are preparing by fixing up our bike racks. (Thanks to Tom Reynolds and Brownie Troop 2017 for repairing and painting these racks.) We look forward to a special bicycling safety class taught by UGA's Tommy Bass. Please watch for us as we walk, bicycle, scooter, and take the school bus to school. And please drive safely!

The Barrow leadership team includes:
Mimi Elliot-Gower, Barrow team leader
Tad MacMillan, Barrow principal
Alice Kinman, Barrow parent and ACC District 4 commissioner
Kim Sweetser, Barrow Food Service Manager
Jen Cole, Barrow 4th-grade teacher
Joy Prator, Barrow 5th-grade teacher
Todd Baker, Barrow parent
Julie Morgan, ACC Planner

Barrow Elementary is the first school in the Clarke County School District to participate in the Safe Routes to School program.
